It's a fun Lidl tasting for us today - focusing specifically on their Deluxe range. Obviously Lidl can be very hit and miss with their wine availabilities; my top tip is if you find a bottle, buy it because it won't be there when you go back (I know this from experience, and from sending Fred trekking across four stores in South London for a very particular bottle of white).
Price point for Deluxe is very wallet friendly, with their range from about £5 to £9 - doesn't sound terribly Deluxe to me, but god how do I love to be proved wrong.
So here we go, my best buys from the Lidl Deluxe Range - two brilliant whites, 2 banging reds.
Pinot Gris, Gisborne - New Zealand 2024 (£7.99)
Sauvignon Blanc, Awatere Valley - New Zealand (£8.49)
Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra - Australia 2024 (£6.99)
Shiraz, Barossa Valley - Australia 2023 (£7.79)
And the ones to avoid:
Shiraz, Swartland - South Africa 2023 (£6.83) - Arse
Viognier, Riverina - Australia (£6.79) - Absolutely bloody horrid. Mouldy melons
Sauvignon Blanc, Western Cape - South Africa 2024 (£5.99) - Utterly nothing redeeming about this, not worth the units, not worth the money, and not worth the teeth enamel damage.
Chardonnay, Reserva Privada - Chile 2023 - Smelt like a pick and mix stand at the cinema, and someone has pissed in the Liquorice All Sorts.
