Barbera d'Alba 'La Gemella' DOC 2021, Giovanni Viberti

Tom has been shipping from Claudio at Viberti for nearly 20 years and they're great old friends in the wine trade. We were lucky enough to visit this estate in September 2023 and it's amazing to be able to ship direct from a grower where we can see and imagine exactly where the grapes have come from. These wines are special, with quality and a sense of place at the forefront.

This is a special wine that is dedicated to Claudio's Mother and her Twin (who can both be seen in the label) who have a particular penchant for Barbera. Barbera used to be seen as 'the wine of the poor', but Claudio was determined to change that perception and replanted several acres of Barbera. Barbera needs careful care and meticulous planning but done well, it can be fantastic and this, is just that. It's got bright red fruit, lovely fresh acidity and very fine tannin that make it almost too easy to drink.
