ROSSO No.1, Coste del Vivo, Toscana, Italy, 2019
This red is what we would call an 'overdeliverer'. It makes no claim on the big names of Tuscany but pours 100% delicousness in to the glass. Made by a Toby Owen, a Scot who fled his homeland for sunnier climes, this is the first single vintage of Rosso No. 1 that he's made. Predominantly Sangiovese, it's blended with a dash of Merlot and Cabernet Franc to produce a full bodied, spicy red with generous tannin - soft black fruit meets tart red cherry, something a little herbal and something quite savoury with a bit of that classic Sangiovese characteristic - tomato leaf.
If you're a lover of robust, foody reds this really is a must try.
