Barolo DOCG, Bricco Delle Viole, Viberti Giovanni, Piedmont, Italy, 2017
Viberti Giovanni is a family estate through and through and has a large place in Tom's heart. Tom has been importing from this producer for over 20 years and the wines seem to just get better and better! In September 2023 Tom and the team had the privilege to visit this special estate and catch some of the harvest. Hosted by head winemaker Claudio (3rd generation) we were able to fully understand the hard work that goes into making these world class wines.
This wine comes from vineyards dating back to 1950, and is Barolo like in style (aged for the same amount of time, 30 months in barrel) It has a classic Italian nose that is full of black cherry, and something a little herbal. This wine has both elegance, finesse but also persistence! The flavours really stick with you and evolve. A great foodie wine perfect with pork, cheese and charcuterie.
