Marchesi di Grésy Rosso, Monferrato DOC, Piedmont, Italy, 2018

We're in Northwest Italy here - Piedmonte - and we've got a single varietal Merlot.  Alberto di Grésy planted Merlot to soften up his Barbera then realised it was so good that he'd do a single varietal wine.  It's aged in French and Slovenian oak barrels and is a delicious glass of red - it's got the sweet plum richness of well ripened Merlot with a smack of sour cherry and dampson to remind us that we're in this cool climate region.  Class in a Glass 😋
